Do You Think The Following Punishment Is Feasible Against Drunk Driving?
So, if someone drives drunk, it should be acceptable without punishment.
However, if that person gets into an accident where the fault is at least 50% his/her, then that person should receive the death penalty.
Do you think that will deter drunk driving in the long-run?

No. On so many levels.
First of all, where on earth can you justify murdering someone for an accident, regardless of if it was their fault or not? That’s disgusting.
Second, the death penalty is not a deterrent. In some cases, it raises the violence levels of specific crimes when it’s listed as a possible consequence.
Third, what do you mean it should be acceptable without punishment? Your argument makes no sense. Drunk drivers should only be held accountable when they hurt themselves or someone else? What kind of logic is that? Should kidnappers only be charged with a crime if they physically injure the victim? If anything, most state laws are too lenient. Drunk drivers should never make it into court with their 4th or 5th DUI, still having had a license and never been remanded to a court ordered alcohol abuse program…yet I’ve seen it happen. Yes, alcoholism is a disease. So is drug addiction. I don’t believe people who drink or do drugs necessarily need incarceration, but they do need to stop being treated with kid gloves in the courts, and they need to have real consequences that will matter. Treatment programs, community service that involves their crime, follow up, etc. It shouldn’t take someone being maimed or killed before someone intervenes.

well that’s great if a family member of mine is killed by a drunk driver, the person who did it will be dead as well so that is ok! But it isn’t ok is it? I’d rather the person wasn’t driving around risking lives in the first place.
It won’t deter people, people are risking their own lives first by drink driving, so why will the risk of a death penalty then be a deterrent? The drunk driver assumes wrongly that he won’t crash, so the plan is deeply flawed.
BTW alcohol IS known to cause a huge number of accidents, people involved in accidents fail breath tests at a much higher rate than other drivers tested. Saying that in a crash between a drunk and a sober driver there is a 50% chance that the sober driver caused it is a fallacy, it is much more likely to be the drunk driver.

No , the state shouldn’t be allowed to murder and don’t you think its a bit much if only a bumper got damaged.
The truth is no one knows how many accidents are caused by drink drivers, the statistics are designed to affect public opinion not reflect the truth. If someone in an accident has had a drink then that accident is recorded for stats as alcohol related regardless of how it was caused and who is the victim. In all the figures released for dd we have to in fairness consider this. If for example (i don’t know exact figure) alcohol is involved in 50% of accidents then we we have to assume that in at least half these the drinker was the victim, so its really 25%.
Because of the punishments we never hear the drinkers side on tv ,only the views of people with vested interests or who are grief stricken.
Personally i would be more worried about the 75% of people who cause accidents while sober.

No.
As it is, only about one in every TWO THOUSAND drunk driver’s get caught, and most of them have no accidents first.
Even if we gave all of them the death penalty, people would still do it because the odds of getting caught are so slim.
Reducing it even further will only weaken the deterrent effect.

Drunken driving is impaired driving that puts everyone at risk. people drink by choice, therefore drink drivers are acting selfishly. An automatic life ban from driving, coupled with a 5 year mandatory sentence with no remission should be imposed on all drink drivers, regardless of the amount they’ve drunk.Should an individual drink drive again, then they should be sent to a penal colony for life.

I heard recently of a 19 yr old kid that was driving under the influence and a car coming in the opposite direction lost control and hit him head on. All three died in the collision and now they are charging him with vehicular manslaughter. He could now be serving life in prison, and it wasn’t even his fault.

Drunk driving is not a good thing to do,however you are just as likely to get killed from a fuc^ing idiot that does not know how to drive or someone on a cell phone,or a mother reaching around to slap her kids or any other fool that does not pay attention.

Hmmm….have lots of people drive around drunk with impunity. If they hit the curb they cops make them put their mouth on it. Sounds good.
